You are frustrated, irritated, and just not good to be around. You are doing everything, you are overwhelmed and still can't seem to say no. You are moody, crabby, and not getting much sleep.
If the above described you in any part. You need to STOP NOW. Before you begin to convince yourself that the organization would collapse without you, just STOP. I hate to break it to you but it wouldn't, collapse without you that is. Not only are you replaceable but you would probably be replaced within two days. Quitting time is now for you. You and the people around you are screaming on the inside for a break. As leaders, we must know that when we don't take care of ourselves we are doing everyone a disservice. The person I mentioned above is operating on only about 20%. To be a GREAT leader we need to be operating at 100%. When we are not, neither is our performance. As leaders we need to commit to always giving 100%. This means that we must be aware when we're operating at less. Moreover, be willing to take a break for a reload, recharge, or refill. Taking a break can be anything that takes responsibility away from a leader. Examples of good breaks are vacations, exercising, leisurely reading, music in any form, hiking, sleeping, meditating, and any other past times that don't require major decision making on your part. A quick destressor can be (10-15 minutes) relaxing things that can be done at your desk, in between meetings, or even in your car.
Helpful Tips on maintaining your 100% Status:
1. Be aware of when you are beginning to go into overload mode. a. Learn to Say NO. 2. Take a break a. Even small breaks help to relieve stress. 3. Reload, Re-energize a. When you are not at 100% do what it takes to get back to 100%.
