Can’t Seem To Find Time For Your Own Business?

Many of our careers suffer from lack of proper attention. It is not enough to just give your business attention, but strategic attention. First let’s start with getting the time back that we are losing.

Recovering lost time is a simple mathematic calculation that starts with defining your definite chief aim. When we know what centers our focus and attention, then we can see if our activities help us to achieve that or distract us from that. I should note here that downtime or relaxation is of course a good thing to have, but must be incorporated to the level where we are once again recharged to head toward our definite chief aim.

When we keep this aim in the forefront of our mind daily, then our mind eventually accepts this new program and regulates all others as a secondary program. What this means in simple terms is when you decide to do something not in the best interest of achieving your definite chief aim, your mind will give you this notice and make clear the consequence of your decision. The thing is, when we take a step toward success, it becomes easier to continue the walk. The things that took away our time no longer have a magnetic pull in them.

Many of us have things that we must tend to, such as being a parent or having a lot of work at the office. This is where focus and preparation comes into play. Preparing a schedule and routine for your household will work wonders for regaining lost time and disciplining your child(ren). There is structure everywhere else in a child’s world, so why not in the home? As for extra assignments on the job, focus techniques and good health practices will work wonders for you to do more work in less time, and do it cheerfully because you know it supports your definite chief aim.

Lastly, what is “strategic attention” and how do we give this to our business? This in itself is worthy of another article, so we will summarize at a high level for now. Strategic attention is the element(s) used to focus on a given thing for a given length of time. There should be some genuine level of enjoyment to our work, otherwise we find ourselves focusing on the rewards alone. Strategic attention is much like the energy that flows through our bodies which make us more apt to exercise with the best results during a certain time of day. Also, this leads the body to digest better closer to sundown. Likewise, focus to our business has heights and depths depending on the time of day. Therefore we can manipulate certain of our business tasks to coordinate with the time of day where we are most prone to follow through vigorously.

Yes, this will require journaling your day and week, but keep it simple. Some of you are in industries driven by the customers’ time schedule or other time factors outside of your direct control. If this is your case, simply use strategic attention as part of your planning phase. Then execute according to normal industry standards as you see fit.

Remember, there are no refunds when time is spent and attention is paid, so finance wisely!

These tips should help you to regain lost time and use that time most effectively to continue pursuing your professional and personal goals!
